About Mo Kargbo

Born in 1969, Mo has been in the fitness industry for over 35 years.  He has competed in numerous competitions ranging from CrossFit to kickboxing and MMA. His fitness journey began at 20 yrs old when he became a doorman in Southampton to supplement his income.  Whilst there, he worked with people who helped develop his strength and fitness.  He entered Cross-Training competitions (an early version of CrossFit) all over the country, and it was there that he found his passion for fitness training. He became a personal trainer at 30 after being disheartened with door work.  The first gym he worked at was Fitness First on Shirley Road, Southampton. It was also at this time that he started kickboxing, and won 3 Southern Area belts.  He then started Martial Arts training, and within 5 years had won 2 World, 2 European and 3 British Cruiserweight kickboxing titles, at the age of 35 years old! At the ripe old age of 57 he is still very active in the semi-professional boxing scene, winning numerous belts and titles. He created MOKA Training to help successful men regain their fitness through a combination of proven strength-training methods, personalised nutrition guidance, recovery strategies and performance coaching to create lasting results, with the mantra “age is only a number”!

blankI have been training with Mo for around 3 years now. We started with boxing but transitioned to kickboxing and strength training. Our focus is on mobility whilst staying strong and athletic. Mo likes to use lots of explosive exercises, such as plyometrics, to complement the kickboxing training, and with everything we do, you always have to keep in mind Mo’s favourite phrase: “speed kills”. The training we do together has resulted in me losing body fat while developing a strong core. Mo has several exercises he likes to use that help you stay mobile, strong and athletic even as the years accumulate. It’s one of those things where consistency is key. When training with Mo, if you put in the work, you get the results. After 3 years of working together, I feel good

Ian, Retired Company Director, 68

I started with Mo at 16 and a half stone, with low energy, a beer belly, and I’d lost my mental sharpness.  I hadn’t exercised properly for over 40 years.

After working with Mo, I’ve actually increased my weight to 18 stone, but at 6’4” I can carry it.  It is no longer fat, it is muscle.  I’ve reduced my waist from 40” to 36” and have improved stamina, strength and concentration.

The best investment in myself I have ever made.

Richard, Company Director, 60

blankBefore training with Mo, I struggled with poor posture, persistent back pain, low upper-body and core strength, and a lack of confidence following a difficult period in my life.

Through a combination of strength training, boxing, agility work and functional movement, Mo helped me transform both physically and mentally. My posture improved dramatically, long-standing aches and pains reduced, and I developed strength, power and athleticism I never thought possible. At 60, I even achieved visible abdominal definition.

The boxing training was particularly valuable, building confidence, resilience and a belief in my own abilities that extended far beyond fitness.

Today, I feel stronger, fitter and more capable than at any other time in my life, and I’m now preparing to return to running as a masters sprinter. Mo’s coaching has been life-changing. He doesn’t just build stronger bodies—he builds stronger people.
